MSc Health & Social Care Management 

Develop your understanding of policy, management theory and practice in health and social care.

The Master of Health and Social Care Management is a key degree that will give you the knowledge and skills you need to work as an effective manager in the hospitals/social care industry.

 

The degree combines both theoretical and practical knowledge in the health and social care profession, so you'll be able to develop your knowledge of leading change, effective performance planning and accountability development team leadership. You'll be able to work in a variety of roles within health care administration and management.

 

The qualification will develop and enhance knowledge and skills in the areas of leading change, effective performance, planning and accountability, development and team leadership.

Our Msc Health & Social Care Management consists of two phases:

 

  1. Completing the mandatory 6 modules provided by ‘OTHM LevelLevel 7 Diploma in Health and Social Care Management’, earning the total of 120 UK credits

  2. Continuing onto a top-up, Capstone project stage; earning the additional 60 UK/12 US credits. 

 

The Master of Science Health & Social Care Management consists of a combined total of 180 UK credits (36 US credits), 1800 hours Total Qualification Time(TQT), 27 Guided Learning Hours.

For entry onto the Msc Health & Social Care Management programme, learners must possess:

  • An honours degree in a related subject or UK level 6 diploma or an equivalent
    overseas qualification

  • Mature learners with teaching/management experience 

  • Learners must be 21 years old or older at the beginning of the course
     

English requirements: If a learner is not a national of an English-speaking country, they must
provide evidence of English language competency at a standard equivalent to the levels identified below, 

  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) level B2

  • Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic) 51

  • IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing must be at 5.5

For Phase One, a variety of assignments and tasks will be used to support learning and assess the knowledge, such as presentations, essays, reports and case studies. All units within this phase are assessed internally by Eton University and externally by OTHM.

For the capstone project, students are required to choose a specific theme; an area of their interest within a health and social care context. They will research this topic and write a 12,000 word essay on it. The time expected to complete this stage is 2 quarters, however, flexible options are available.

To obtain Msc Health & Social Care Management degree candidates must fulfill the following requirements:   

  • a pass in all modules and a successful completion of 180 credits in total

Unit 1: Health and Social Care Leadership

The aim of this unit is to provide learners with an in-depth understanding of theories in relation to leadership, and leadership styles, using these to appraise the leadership role, selecting and applying appropriate leadership approaches.

Unit 2: Managing People in Health and Social Care

The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to understand the processes involved in the recruitment, management and development of people in the health and social care workplace.

Unit 3: Managing Finance in the Health and Social Care Sector

The aim of this unit is to introduce key financial concepts and tools for managers in health and social care.

Unit 4: Health and Social Care Strategies and Policies

This unit aims to explore international health and social care policy; contemporary, political, social and cultural issues that help to determine healthcare policy and strategy applicable to the national and international context.

Unit 5: Leading Change in Health and Social Care

The aim of this unit is to help learners develop an understanding of theories of change management and how they apply to contemporary organisations in the globalised world, with the identification and use of change models.

Unit 6: Research Methods for Healthcare Professionals

The aim of this unit is to develop learners’ research skills to include understanding different research approaches, formulation of research proposals, planning research activity, analysing and interpreting data, and the relationship between research and evidence based practice.

Capstone Project

Drawing on the knowledge and skills gained during the programme, students create a research project that enables them to further their educational experience. By independently examining the theories and methods traditionally used to tackle real-life situations , policies and management issues, and by communicating logically and formulating meaningful claims, students are asked to challenge the existing ideas and propose new solutions.  The project’s aim is to contribute  both to the students’ professional development as well as to the advancement of the education field.

Students will study this program through our Hybrid Learning model.

This virtual study mode allows flexibility and expert-led teaching to be accessed from anywhere. Students only need their laptop and a stable internet connection. Each module contains 4 one-to-one or small group sessions with the tutor. Sessions are recorded and available to be rewatched at any time through the learning portal. The learning management system gives students access to course materials and resources relevant to the study programme, such as textbooks, presentations, case studies and guides. If required, additional private tuition hours can be booked.
